BC-based Contech, Inc. has announced the sale of its
ScatMat product line to Radio Systems Corporation of Knoxville, TN, effective December 1,
2008. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Contech designs and manufactures animal care and control products and non-toxic pest
management systems. Radio Systems is the owner of PetSafe, Innotek, and SportDOG
branded products.
The ScatMat is an indoor pet training device that can be placed on furniture, in doorways, or
on countertops or window sills. It emits a mild static pulse when a pet touches it and it helps
to establish out-of-bounds areas.
“The ScatMat was Contech's first product 20 years ago and it has been a significant part of
our history. Looking to the future, our focus is on long-term, green tech growth,” said
Contech president and CEO Mark Grambart. “The capital from this sale bolsters our ability to
grow our key product segments through internal development and acquisition.”
As part of its growth plan, Contech acquired Phero Tech International—a Vancouver-based
developer of non-toxic pest management and pheromone-based products--in May 2008.
Contech will continue to offer its broad array of pet, garden, and insect products including the
EatBetter and DrinkBetter bowls, WaterDog, CatStop, ScareCrow, and pheromone-based
insect traps.
