Vancouver-based Phero Tech International, Inc. has signed an agreement with international animal reproduction technology company, Minitube, for Phero Tech’s PheroBoar™ and PheroMate™ pig pheromone products.

Minitube, with offices in Germany, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Australia, Spain, Slovakia, China, Indonesia and the United States, is known for advancing animal reproduction technologies through research and development. The company manufactures and distributes products and services for artificial insemination, embryo transfer, and in-vitro fertilization.

Developed by Phero Tech scientists, PheroBoar and PheroMate improve on existing technology by using pheromones formulated as water-based sprays to improve mating in the swine industry. PheroBoar is a boar substitute spray designed to increase productivity among sows. PheroMate uses pheromones to assist in stud (boar) training.

PheroBoar can virtually eliminate the use of boars in determining whether a sow is ready to mate. Sprayed near the snout of the sow, it helps to detect oestrus in sows and gilts and can be used to establish the optimum mating period.

PheroMate aids in the training of naïve boars with dummy sows. The product increases vocalization and attentiveness and can transform slower boars with poor interest into effective heat-check boars.

PheroBoar and PheroMate are all-natural and use a non-pressurized, water-based formula. Since the pheromone is not dissolved in an organic solvent and dispensed from a pressurized aerosol dispenser, the scent does not evaporate upward from the point of application, increasing the potency of the applied dose. The water-based products are non-hazardous and can be shipped easily by air.
