ChatterBowl® Frequently Asked Questions
If the information below has not helped you solve your problem, contact Contech Customer Service at 1-800-767-8658, or email us.
The ChatterBowl doesn’t work every time.
Because your voice playback is triggered by a photoelectric cell that senses
change in lighting (like when your pet is eating from the bowl) it works best in
well-lit areas. Avoid locating the bowl in dark or very dim areas.
Back to Questions
The ChatterBowl has stopped working.
The batteries may be dead. Typically, the four AAA batteries will last from six
to twelve months. Replace the batteries with new ones, fresh from the package.
Back to Questions
My pet is scared of the ChatterBowl.
To familiarize your pets with the ChatterBowl, let them watch you record
the message and replay it with them the first few times.
Back to Questions
Will the ChatterBowl work anywhere?
Because your voice playback is triggered by a photoelectric cell that senses change
in lighting, as occurs when your pet’s face is in the bowl, it works best
in well-lit areas. Playback triggering in very dim areas, or direct sunlight, can
be inconsistent.
Back to Questions
Is the Chatterbowl best for water or food?
The ChatterBowl is designed to be used with food or water.
Back to Questions
Does my pet’s face have to be in the bowl to trigger
playback?
If you turn the bowl to face a light source, playback can be triggered when your
pet nears the bowl. In this case, ChatterBowl can ‘invite’ your pet
to drink or eat.
Back to Questions
Does the TalkBox have to be removed from the bowl to
record a message?
No, the TalkBox controls are within easy reach, even when it is installed inside
the bowl.
Back to Questions
What is the best way to get the TalkBox out of the ChatterBowl?
The Velcro is quite strong so its best to pull the TalkBox away from the Velcro
at the bottom and then slide your fingers toward the top of the bowl to detach it
from the top.
Back to Questions
Will the ChatterBowl frighten my pet?
Our experience and discussion with trainers indicate that pets are not normally
frightened by voices. We suggest letting your pet watch you play back the message
the first few times, to familiarize them. And it’s always a good idea to speak
in a warm tone.
Back to Questions
Should the TalkBox be removed from the bowl before washing?
Yes: although it is water resistant, immersing the TalkBox in water can damage the
electronics.
Back to Questions
Is the bowl dishwasher safe?
Yes; ChatterBowl is dishwasher safe on top rack only. Remove the TalkBox before
placing in the dishwasher.
Back to Questions
What is your product guarantee/return warranty?
If you are not satisfied with the ChatterBowl you can return it within 30 days to
the place of purchase for a refund
Back to Questions
Will the ChatterBowl work with cats and dogs?
Yes although it's larger than most cat bowls.
Back to Questions
Can the TalkBox be turned off?
Yes, using the power switch at the bottom.
Back to Questions
Does turning the TalkBox off erase the message?
No. Your message will be saved until you re-record it.
Back to Questions
How long will four AAA batteries last?
Estimated life, six to twelve months.
Back to Questions
Can the ChatterBowl help with separation anxiety?
Although some trainers and pet experts feel that hearing your voice may help to
comfort your pet while you’re away, there is not yet any proof to confirm
this theory. The way your pet responds to hearing your voice while you're away (for
example, across the telephone) is unique to your pet.
Back to Questions
Does it come in any other colors?
The ChatterBowl is pearl colored. Other colors may be available in the future.
