Why Seal Pruning Cuts?
Treating pruning cuts is an old practice that was thought to protect trees from insects entering the cut and affecting the tree. Research, although not absolute, indicates that trees heal naturally and do not require sealing. Many arborists suggest that seal is not required. At the same time, many users feel better sealing pruning cuts.

What is the difference between Tree Pruning Sealer and Tree Wound and Grafting Compound?
Both are useful products and accomplish the same objective.
Tree Pruning Sealer is similar to an oil base paint. It is thicker that regular paint.
Tree Wound and Grafting Compound contains an emulsifier (this allows the paint molecule to absorb water) that makes the product to be thinned with water, if needed. It also makes the cleaning of application tools much easier.

What is the Latex Pruning Sealer?
Some individuals do not want to use asphalt products for pruning cuts. This is a German product that is made by combining non-asphaltic materials. It is composed of clays, oils and latex.

How are large wounds or tree splits treated?
Tree Wound & Grafting can be used for larger wounds and splits. The cavity can be filled with the Compound to prevent insect and moisture penetration. After application, the water will evaporate and harden. This will seal the wound. The seal should be inspected and the Wound Compound reapplied to seal any cracks that may occur.
