WaterDog® Frequently Asked Questions
If the information below has not helped you solve your problem, contact Contech Customer Service at 1-800-767-8658, or email us.
My WaterDog doesn't activate when my dog goes near it. What could the problem be?
1.) Check to ensure the unit has good batteries. To test the batteries, place your hand in front of the sensors. If the light flashes green, the batteries are good. If the light flashes red, the batteries need to be replaced. Sometimes rechargable batters can cause issues, so try with a non-rechargable set if this test does not work.
2.) Check to ensure the sensor on the front of the unit is clean. If it is clean, try adjusting the height of the WaterDog. Make sure it is aimed at the shoulder height of your dog. If the unit still fails to turn on, follow the WaterDog cleaning instructions.
3.) Ensure the WaterDog sensors are dry. This can happen from morning dew, or if the unit is in the path of a sprinkler. If you suspect this is the problem, first dry the sensor by following the cleaning instructions to Step 2 and gently dry the front of the sensor. When placing the unit back outside, ensure the WaterDog is not in the path of a sprinkler, or in a location where it could get wet.
4.) The WaterDog has an emergency lockout setting which is triggered if an object remains in front of the unit for more than 4 minutes. The WaterDog will not turn back on until the object is removed. The emergency lockout is indicated by a quick green-red flash every 10 seconds.
Back to Questions
The WaterDog sometimes seems to activate on its own. What can I do?
Check to ensure there are no objects, such as tall grass, within the three-foot
range of the sensor. You can also try positioning the unit lower, and angling the
sensor slightly upward to prevent the device from detecting objects on the ground.
Back to Questions
Can any size dog use the WaterDog?
The WaterDogs height is adjustable, making it suitable for dogs of almost any size.
Back to Questions
I want to be able to use other hoses on the same tap that I have the
WaterDog installed on, can this be done?
The WaterDog comes with a 'Y' connector – this lets your tap remain free to attach
other hoses.
