WaterDog^® Tips & Tricks

Most dogs will understand how to use the WaterDog immediately. However, more timid dogs may need some training. We suggest trying the following.

• With your dog on its leash, approach the unit with your dog following behind so the water begins to dispense as you approach.
  Do not force your dog to approach the WaterDog - try to encourage him to approach on his own.
  Try cupping your hands under the water and offering it to your dog. Gradually try to coax him toward the WaterDog. You may need to repeat this a few times to build your dog's confidence.
• Relocate your pets normal water bowl so it's sitting directly beneath the WaterDog. When the WaterDog activates, it will fill your dog's regular bowl.
  After a few days, try removing the bowl. If your dog does not drink from the WaterDog, try again later with another technique.
• Hold a treat in your hand in front of the WaterDog while it is activating.
  Gradually bring the treat closer and closer to the water, until your dog is actually getting wet while taking the treat.
• Before introducing your dog to the WaterDog for the first time, make sure they are thirsty. Remove their regular source of outdoor water and exercise them first.
